The CIIE is a forum for international cooperation organized by the Chinese government for participating countries all over the world to display their achievement and implement international trade practice as well as to introduce Chinese goods and services to the world.
The CIIE also provided an opportunity to all participating countries to discuss major issues concerning international trade and world economy and find ways to improve global economic governance.
It is rarely the case in the world that a developing country like China chose to hold an import-theme expo. The expo will not only provide new opportunities for countries around the world to expand export to China, but also create a platform for countries to engage in international trade and share business opportunities with each other. Cambodia’s Ministry of Commerce has participated in this mega-event 3 times led by H.E. PAN Sorasak, Minister of Commerce.
The first CIIE held in 2018, the second CIIE held in 2019 and the third CIIE expo held in 2020. The Ministry of Commerce has invited potential business companies involved with key sectors such as rice, construction, real estate, investment project and foods and beverages to attend the Expo and business meeting. In 2020 because of the widespread use of Covid-19 the grand opening ceremony of the third CIIE was done online. The Ministry of Commerce has appointed His Excellency Chhuon Dara, Secretary of State representing H.E. PAN Sorasak, Minister of Commerce lead Cambodian delegation attend an opening ceremony from Phnom Penh.

The Ministry of Commerce of Cambodia attended the first China International Import Expo-CIIE having done from 05-10 November 2018 in Shanghai, PRC. The Chinese government organized this mega-event aiming to show the moving forward of market-oriented policy and international trade promotion to the world. The CIIE is a vital forum for international cooperation of participating countries to showcase their achievements, trade and economic development. The participation of Cambodia to this expo reflected the support to China’s policy to promote trade and economic globally, open market for global economic integration especially promote sustainable development and bilateral trade between Cambodia and China.
There are 172 Participating countries and NGOs, 3,600 trading companies and 400,000 potential buyers around the world attended the CIIE. Kingdom of Cambodia has prepared our own national pavilion with the size of 136 sqm follow by Khmer Traditional Style, sending 10 trading companies and display Cambodian potential products and services include investment project, tourism and culture to this CIIE.
The CIIE is officially open on 5 November, 2018 presided over by H.E. Xi Jinping, President of the PRC together with the attending of Prime Ministers, Deputy Prime Ministers and Ministers from the region and the world of around 300 persons and officials concerned. China is a second biggest economy in the world who have a huge market of about 1,300 million people thus far, through the open market policy the Chinese government kept continue to organize the CIIE bigger year-by-year.
During participation the Expo, Cambodia have attend conjunction meeting and forum and have opportunity to have a bilateral talk with Chinese side requested the Chinese government expanding import of Cambodian rice and other agricultural products for further strengthen bilateral trade to reach the target of the two government have been committed. Coincide with these event, Cambodian delegation have offer a caving marble stone of Khmer tradition as a souvenir to the organizing committee to display at permanent exhibition hall in Shanghai as a memorial status represent Cambodia in China.
The CIIE is really importance for Cambodia to promote our local products to outside world especially it is a good occasion to strengthen the relationship between Cambodia-China and with the world.
H.E. PAN Sorasak Minister of Commerce led Cambodian delegation to participate the second China International Import Expo in Shanghai.
The second China International Import Expo-CIIE was held from 05-10 November 2019 in Shanghai, PRC. This mega-event was officially open in the morning of 5 November 2019 presided over by H.E. Xi Jinping, President of People’s Republic of China with the participation of Prime Ministers, Deputy Prime Ministers, Ministers in the region and around the world made the event more attractive and noticeable.
In 2019, Cambodia was invited to be a country of Honor in the exhibition. His Excellency PAN Sorasak, Minister of Commerce lead Cambodian delegation from public and private sector attended this 2nd CIIE. His Excellency stress that the participation of Cambodia to the Expo expressed a stand for Cambodia to support market-oriented policy of Chinese government on foreign goods import into Chinese market and promote commercialization move forward and regional and global economic integration.
The CIIE is a political-economic forum globally who have about 192 participating countries and international NGOs also attend the expo. The Expo also act as inter-connection between human, society, culture exchange and showcase the creative and innovation to outside world. Cambodia have been participated with this world class expo two time since commencement made Cambodia stand equally on international appearance.
This year the Ministry’s send 3 private companies with different sector like rice, real estate and investment project to attend the expo for match-making and business meeting with foreign partners. The Ministry also brought potential items such as rice, black pepper, cashewnuts, handicraft products and promotion material to disseminate during the Expo.
During the Expo period, Cambodian delegation attended trade promotion forum organized by Yunnan trade and Investment Corporation and match-making Cambodian company with foreign buyers.
Participating with this event is really important. We will have A direct opportunity to disseminate our products and country to the world. During the exhibition a state own enterprise ”Green Trade Company” signed MOU with Chinese counterpart to supply Cambodian rice to Chinese market.
